My creative work includes drawing, sculpture, photography, and Native American beadwork as well as digital media; I find that utilizing different disciplines prompts me to use each installation as a foothold for future projects, taking each piece and building upon it to create more excellent works. This interdisciplinary approach has caused my sculptures to take on a new and distinct form. My resin and foam sculptures draw on the awe-inspiring realistic natural and industrial forms that are present on our planet. Through them, I explore a mind-bending interaction of miniaturized stonework combined with organic shapes found in nature. Contrasting colors add a pop to the design, leading the viewer to create their own story. Foam, resin, wood, and metal serve as my primary media. Sculpting the foam to that of sandstone, granite, and asphalt, I use the resin to create a stark contrast between the natural and man-made stonework by shaping it into running water or an apocalyptic hand bursting from the city street. This way, I explore their shapes, colors, textures, and materiality in a way not shown before. My sculptures range in size and evoke a sense of wonder from the viewer due to the scale, drawing them into the worlds I create. From my interaction with the foam, I can create sweeping sandstone canyons and beachside cliffs. Through this discovery of the hidden potential beneath, it inspires and drives me to design new exciting sculptures recreating the feeling of viewing nature in its unbound form. Composition and craft hold together the multiple components to form a unique balance exclusive to each piece. These forms cause the viewer to construct an internal narrative of what they see. Art, for me, at least lives within the balance of form, design, and observance.
