This piece was built upon the concept with the intent to emphasize line in a sculpture. I took this as a challenge and wanted to use this as a statement piece. While deployed to Japan I saw the inherent hatred that the Okinawan's had towards the Marines that were stationed with us. The marines had a massive hold on the land as a deployable point in Asia. They were there to protect however many saw this as an opportunity to oppress the civilians. I wanted to show the anger the locals had towards the marines with a fiery red hand bursting from the Japanese pavement, the wires that should be holding it to its task griping back and trying to hold it down as it resists. The work itself was made using wax as a mold for my own hand then filling the recess with resin. Finally I created a city street from XPS foam and painted each brick by hand.
